Sciatica Pain refers to discomfort that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the human body. This nerve extends from the lower back, through the hips and buttocks, and down each leg. Sciatica typically affects only one side of the body and can range from a mild ache to sharp, burning, or shooting pain that makes it difficult to sit, stand, or walk. Some people may also experience tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness in the affected leg or foot.



The primary cause of sciatica is compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve. This often occurs due to a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, or degenerative disc disease. Other contributing factors may include poor posture, obesity, prolonged sitting, or injuries that place pressure on the lower spine. In some cases, doctors may recommend steroid injections or other interventions to reduce inflammation and ease nerve compression. Surgery is rarely needed, but may be considered if pain persists or if there is significant nerve damage.

Preventive measures play a key role in managing sciatica. Regular exercise to strengthen core and back muscles, maintaining a healthy weight, and practicing good posture while sitting or lifting heavy objects can significantly reduce the risk of recurrence. With timely attention and consistent care, most individuals with sciatica recover fully and return to normal activities without long-term complications.
